A two-day national dairy farmers conference commences today in Gippsland.
The farmer-run Australian Dairy Conference has been held annually for the last 10 years in different parts of the country but this is the first time it has come to Gippsland.
Activities are centred around Lardner Park and the Warragul area and includes a visit to the Macalister demonstration farm near Maffra.
Conference organiser Ben Geard says the program includes two international keynote speakers, Professors John Ikerd and David Hughes.
"John comes to us from the United States. He's going to give us a challenging exploration of the future of farming and a vision for farm ethics and responsibility and purpose at its core.
"David Hughes from the UK is a professor of food marketing and will look at the direction the Australian dairy industry is heading."

A campaign has been launched to pressure the federal health minister to include funding for the planned upgrade of Latrobe Regional Hospital in the May budget.
Hospital board Chair Kellie O'Callaghan says $65 million is required to meet increasing demands as a regional referral hospital.
"That would be 30 new beds in a medical/surgical inpatient ward. We'd also see the redevelopment of our emergency department.
"Most importantly, the centrepiece of this expansion would be the inclusion of a cardiac catheterisation lab. This is for the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions."
The Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has sent mini petitions to Latrobe Valley homes, asking that they be completed and returned to help demonstrate public support.

The filmmaker and author from Drouin South documented his 3½ year horse-back journey from Mongolia to Hungary which was screened on Australian television in 2010.
Tim says he won the overall prize at a major Canadian film festival.
"This was a really special one because the Vancouver International Film Festival is one of the bigger, more prestigious ones on the circuit.
"[The Trail of Genghis Khan] has won two awards: the Grand Prize, which is the overall prize for films and there were probably 60 or 70 films that were selected as finalists. And it also won in the category of Best Film on Mountain Culture."
Tim is now working on a book of his adventure for an American publisher. The first draft is due in New York today.
Greg Allen spoke with Tim after his award was announced. Read more about their conversation at
